Small Camera Bag: Three Bags a Camera Actually Fits

WANDRD ROGUE 6L, Peak Design Sling 6L and WANDRD ROGUE 3L. For a camera with a 28mm and a 50mm beside it — not for a zoom you never take out.

A small camera bag is not a shrunk pro bag. It is the decision to take only what you actually put in front of the lens on a normal day. For me that is a Nikon Z6 II. The 28mm is on. The 50mm f/1.8 comes out when the street becomes a face or a dinner. Most days that is all that is in there, and it is all I want to carry.

I do not need a bag that shouts camera and is also supposed to hold a zoom, a flash and a laptop. A sling of about six litres, worn across the chest, is enough. The WANDRD ROGUE 6L is the one this set fits. The Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L is the same size if you already live in their clip system. The ROGUE 3L is the honest smaller version: one camera, and the second lens stays home.

Which camera you can carry like that, and why a 70–200 usually stays in the hotel, is in camera for travel. The big backpack, when a laptop and clothes do have to come, is in the camera backpack test. That is a different piece of luggage.

Which small camera bag?

Into the ROGUE 6L I pack what actually ends up in front of the lens on a normal day. The Nikon with the 28mm on, the 50mm f/1.8 in the other half. Inside, the bag is about 30.5 centimetres wide, 17 high and 11.5 deep. Empty it weighs about 700 grams. The maker says a full-frame body and two short lenses fit. In my case they do.

I take the Peak Design sling in the same size seriously when someone already has their clips on a belt and does not want to learn a second strap system. It is flatter inside, so the lenses stay short. The three-litre ROGUE is the honest little sibling: one camera, and the second lens stays home. Otherwise it gets tight, and then you are annoyed in the middle of the trip.

Why the bag stays small: 28mm or 50mm

28mm and 50mm are primes. The camera does not zoom. You step closer or you step back. That sounds like giving something up, and on the street it is the reason the bag can stay small. A zoom, especially a bright 70–200, is long and heavy. It wants its own pocket. You carry it so it is there, and then you leave it in the pocket because unpacking takes longer than the moment.

28mm on a full-frame camera shows you a lot of the street, the square, the room. People do not automatically become portraits, but you see where they stand. 50mm is tighter. A face, a detail, a table. The 50mm f/1.8 opens further than the small 28mm at f/2.8. For you that means a softer background, and more room in the evening. I leave the 28mm on while I walk. The 50mm comes out when I stop.

What fits in a 6-litre camera bag

The camera sits with the 28mm in one half. The 50mm f/1.8 sits in the other, cap on. Plus a spare card and a small battery, and nothing else that pushes the dividers outward. A tripod and a laptop do not belong in this bag. Once they have to come, it is no longer a small day.

Which camera bag fits

The drawing only sorts what you really want to haul. Once a laptop, clothes and several zooms have to come, none of the three is small enough. Then it is a backpack, and that is fine.

WANDRD ROGUE 6L: camera and a lens beside it

Six litres is the point where a mirrorless camera stops looking like equipment and starts being a bag you pull on and forget. You open it from the side, the camera is there, the 50mm is there. You are not standing on the pavement digging through a backpack. Empty, it is about 700 grams of padding and zipper. That is not nothing. It is still less than the zoom you are not carrying instead. In November 2026 it often sat around €120 to €160. What it costs today is on Amazon.

The bag my Nikon, the 28mm and the 50mm actually fit

A sling of about 6 litres. Inside, the current version measures roughly 30.5 × 17 × 11.5 cm, and empty it weighs about 700 g. The maker says a full-frame body and two primes fit. That is how I use it: Nikon Z6 II, the 28mm on, the 50mm f/1.8 beside it.

Peak Design Sling 6L: the same size, a different strap

Six litres are six litres. The difference is the inside and the system around it. Peak Design is flatter. A camera with a short lens and a second small lens go in. A long zoom does not. With the dividers it weighs about 780 grams, often a bit more than the WANDRD, and it often costs about €100 to €150. I reach for it when someone already has Peak clips on their belt and does not want to learn a second strap system. For my Z set with 28 and 50, the ROGUE stays the bag whose depth I know.

The same six litres, if you already live in their clips

Also 6 litres, about 780 g with the dividers. Flatter inside than the ROGUE, so the lenses stay short: a camera with a short lens and one small second lens, not a zoom brick. The strap and the clips are Peak Design's system. If you already wear that on your belt, this is the calmer choice.

WANDRD ROGUE 3L: the camera only

Three litres are honest. A compact fits. A body with the 28mm on fits. The 50mm as a second lens beside it becomes a struggle, and then you are annoyed on the trip that you left it at home or that you are bulging the bag. Buy the 3 litres when you know you will not swap. It sits clearly under the price of the 6 litres. If you later want the second lens anyway, you otherwise buy twice.

Honestly just the camera

The smaller sibling. Three litres, lighter, and honestly meant for one camera: a compact, or a body with one short lens such as the 28mm. You do not comfortably squeeze the 50mm in beside it. That is what the 6-litre sling is for.

When the camera bag becomes a backpack

A laptop, a change of clothes, a second zoom, a day that only ends in the evening: that is not a job for six litres. Then I take the WANDRD PRVKE, the big backpack, and not the sling. The comparison with Lowepro, National Geographic and Peak Design is in the camera backpack test. The small bag and the backpack do not contradict each other. They are two different days.

FAQ

Common questions about a small camera bag

Which small camera bag fits a mirrorless camera?
The WANDRD ROGUE 6L. The camera has a short lens on, the second small lens sits beside it, and the bag stays a bag. The Peak Design Everyday Sling in the same size, if you already live in their strap system. The ROGUE 3L only when a second lens really does not come.
Does a Nikon Z with a 28mm and a 50mm fit a small bag?
Yes, in the ROGUE 6L. That is how I carry the Z6 II: 28mm on, 50mm f/1.8 beside it. In the 3-litre sling the second lens does not sit comfortably.
Is a sling enough, or do I need a camera backpack?
For a day with one camera and one or two short lenses, the sling is enough. Once a laptop, clothes or a long zoom have to come, a backpack such as the WANDRD PRVKE is the more honest bag.
Why no zoom in the small bag?
A bright 70–200 is long and heavy. It fills the bag on its own and then often stays in the pocket. With a 28mm and a 50mm you photograph by moving, and the bag stays a bag.
